"Failing to acknowledge the roles that race plays in urban contexts is to deny the lived realities of students and the funding conditions inherent in most urban environments."

from Doublespeak: Coded Language and Urban Music Education

I am a veteran educator and leader dedicated to making music classrooms more inclusive and equitable. My work is driven by a classroom-rooted perspective—one shaped by years of experience in K–12 teaching, non-profit leadership, and district-wide arts administration. I know the challenges of the classroom because I’ve lived them.

Currently, I serve as Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music and on faculty at the University of Massachusetts Boston. My research and teaching focus on dismantling gatekeeping and White supremacy in music education. My goal is to provide you with the practical tools you need for culturally responsive and culturally generative pedagogy.

When I’m not in the classroom or editing for the Massachusetts Music Educators Journal, I’m out in the field helping practitioners navigate the complexities of race and leadership in urban school systems. Whether through a presentation or a deep-dive workshop, I am committed to helping you create equitable music programs that truly serve all students.
